Pastry- Strudel pastry
It’s one of those foody things you’ve got to make before you die - It’s great fun -stretching it out and suprisingly easy.
Plus you can fill/stuff with an assortment of fruits, cheese, nuts, dried foods, meats, fish and vegetables.
Preparation time: 20 minutes + 30 minutes resting time Quantity: Makes one 8 portioned strudel
Ingredients
250g/ 9 oz plain flour- sieved
1 medium-large egg
300g/1 fl oz vegetable oil
25g/ 1 oz melted butter
60g/ 2 fl oz water
Method
- Sieve the flour and make a well in the middle
- Add the egg, oil, water and butter
- Mix well -to form a dough
- Season
- Kneed for 5-10 minutes, till slightly elastic
- Rest in the fridge, covered for 30 minutes or so
- To roll -
On a well floured bench, roll out the dough till 1/2inch thick
- Then the fun begins = Stretch by hand, pulling round, keep going till as thin as paper-well we’ll settle between paper and cardboard
- (Fill with mix, roll and bake)
