Basic Shortcrust Pastry

An all round pastry used for savoury pies and tarts or the occasional sweet dessert. Will last in the fridge for a few days or frozen for a few months.

Preparation time: 15 minutes   Quantity: Makes one large tart or pie  

Ingredients

450g/ 1 lb /16 oz plain flour
225g/ 8 oz fat i.e. butter, lard, margarine
water to mix

Method

  • Rub ingredients together and add enough water to form in to a soft dough
