Apple, Date and Prune Chutney

A really rich chutney full of winter fruitiness. Serve with cheese and biscuits.

Preparation time: 10 -15 minutes   Quantity: Makes 4 jam jars full   Cooking time: 50 minutes

Ingredients

250g / 9 oz cooking apples - peeled and diced 250g / 9 oz dates - chopped
250g / 9 oz prunes - chopped
2 cm grated ginger
1 clove garlic - crushed
300 ml red or white wine vinegar
250g / 9 oz dark brown sugar
pinch allspice

Method

  • Place all the ingredients in a large saucepan
  • Bring to a simmer and stir well
  • Simmer for 40 - 50 minutes stirring occasionally
  • Cook till the mixture is thick and syrupy
  • Spoon in to clean sterilized jars
