Harissa (Moroccan-Style Hot Spice Blend) Recipe

A little Harissa goes a long way! Stir in a tiny bit while you cook, or let each person mix a little into their own portion of any vegetable or bean dish. Be sure to caution anyone who is not familiar with Harissa cause its hot, hot, hot.

Preparation time: 10 minutes   Quantity: Makes a 100g batch or so  

Ingredients

1 teaspoon ground caraway
2 tablespoon cayenne
1 tablespoon ground cumin
1 clove garlic
1/2 teaspoon salt
10 twists of pepper
2 tablespoons sunflower oil
1 dried red chilli- ground
1/4 fresh lemon juice (optional)

Method

  • Mix the dry dry spices in a small refrigerator container
  • Peel the garlic clove and press it through a garlic press into the dry spices
  • Add the oil and mix well
  • Store covered in refrigerator
  • Very hot!
