Treacle Toffee
Those dark, stick in your teeth toffees -that are so good around bonfire night. Make your own sweetie cones by cutting out a triangle from an 4 piece of card, fold it round from the flat edge to make a cone - staple together and fill with toffees.
Preparation time: 10-15 minutes Quantity: Makes approx. 20 Cooking time: 10 minutes
Ingredients
200g / 8 oz dark brown sugar
75-80 ml condensed milk
40g / 1&1/2 oz butter
1/2 tablespoon malt vinegar
50g/ 2 oz black treacle
50g/ 2 oz golden syrup
Method
- Heat the brown sugar and condensed milk in a heavy bottom pan
- Stir until the sugar is dissolved
- Add all the other ingredients
- Boil till the temperature reaches 130*c -soft crack stage
- Pour the mixture in to a greased tin approx. 4-5 inch
- Leave till nearly set
- Score with a knife and leave to set
- Cut in to the set squares
- Store in greaseproof paper
