Sashimi Mackerel in Vinegar

Mackerel is extremely cheap and accessible all year round, packed full of omega goodness and relatively low in calories. This is simply done yet refreshingly gorgeous.

Preparation time: 10 - 15 minutes + marinating   Quantity: Serves 4   Cooking time: No cooking required

Ingredients

2 mackerel - filleted / or buy 4 fillets
1 teaspoon salt

Marinade -
1/4 c up white wine vinegar
1 tablespoon water
1 tablespoon caster sugar

Garnish -
2 -3 inch’s mooli / white radish - grated
1 tablespoon sushi ginger

Dipping Sauce -
2 tablespoons tamari or light soya sauce
1/2 tablespoon white wine vinegar
pinch sugar

Method

  • Rub the mackerel in salt and leave covered in the fridge over night
  • Wash thoroughly
  • Cut in to thin slices, but cut on the slant to get bigger slices
  • Mix the ingredients for the marinade together and pour over the mackerel, covering each piece well
  • Leave for 20 - 30 minutes
  • Arrange the mackerel on to a serving plate
  • Serve with the grated mooli and ginger
  • Mix the ingredients for the dipping sauce together and serve with the fish
