Braised Yellow Rice

A traditional accompaniment with Bobotie, a South African dish - see CookeryClubs recipe.

Preparation time: 10 minutes   Quantity: Serves 4   Cooking time: 30 - 40 minutes

Ingredients

120g /4 oz easy cook white or brown rice
500 ml/17 fl oz water or stock
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
8 twists black pepper /1/2 teaspoon
2 teaspoon turmeric
1 cinnamon stick or 1 teaspoon ground
30g/ 1 oz butter

Method

  • Add all the ingredients in to a deep roasting tin or suitable cooking dish
  • Place in a pre heated oven gas 6/ 210*c/420*f
  • Cover with tin foil or a lid
  • Braise for 30-40 minutes till all the water is absorbed and the rice is cooked
