German Apple Tart

This is a quick, good looking open tart, full of flavour and great served warm.

Preparation time: 20 minutes   Quantity: Serves 8-10   Cooking time: 1 hour

Ingredients

400g puff pastry - (bought is fine)
60g ground almonds
5 firm apples, peeled, cored and sliced
300 ml double cream
2 medium eggs
3 tablespoons caster sugar

Method

  • Roll out the pastry on a lightly floured table till approx. 1/4 inch thick
  • Line a 9-10 inch tin/case
  • Sprinkle over the almonds
  • Arrange the sliced apples in overlapping circles over the almonds
  • Combine cream and eggs, pour over apples and sprinkle with sugar
  • Cook in a preheated oven for 50-60 minutes. Gas 4/180°C/380*f
