Indonesian Beef Skewers

For a variation try adding a hand full (30g) of desiccated coconut to the marinade mix. Serve with CookeryClubs peanut sauce or just a simple dip of light soy sauce.

Preparation time: 5 -10 minutes   Quantity: Makes approx. 12 skewers   Cooking time: 8 -10 minutes

Ingredients

450g /1 lb rump steak
1 onion - finely diced
2 cloves garlic - crushed
1/2 red chilli - finely sliced
1 teaspoon ground corriander
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1 tablespoon galangal or ginger - grated
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
2 tablespoon light soy sauce
1 tablespoon light brown sugar
1/2 fresh lemon juice

Method

  • Cut the rump in to 1-2 cm thick and 4-5 cm long strips
  • Mix all the other ingredients together to make a marinade
  • Mix the marinade in to the beef
  • Leave for 30 or so minutes or preferably over night
  • Thread on to pre soaked wooden skewers, one piece of beef per skewer
  • Grill or B.B.Q till browned on all sides
  • Serve with soy or sate sauce
