Mushy Peas
At around 30p a box and crammed full of flavour and nutrition- they make the perfect side dish to fish, seafood and even some meats.
Preparation time: 5 minutes Quantity: Serves 3 or 4 small portions Cooking time: 1 hour - 1&1/4 hours
Ingredients
1 box / 250g dried green peas
plus seeping tablet - contained in box
Method
- Soak dried peas over night covered in water with the tablet added (to soften the peas)
- Allow space for the peas to double in size
- Boil for 10 –15 minutes and then simmer for 45 minutes –1 hr or until the peas have mushed- you may need to add a little more water when simmering, but don't over soak as the water absorbs in to the peas- to mush!
- You can add chopped garlic and onion in the beginning and serve with mint sauce, fresh mint or mint jelly
Warning - some easy / quick soak peas take half the time to cook - so keep an eye on the pot
