Lentil Dhal
This freezes really well, so make up a load.
Try for a party and serve with rice and chapatis or as part of an Indian banquet.
If you use red split lentils you don’t have to soak as there so small, just cook a little longer. Try this recipe with other lentils.
Preparation time: 5-10 minutes Quantity: Serves 3 - 4 Cooking time: 20-30 minutes
Ingredients
200g /8 oz red lentils
1 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon turmeric
1 teaspoon chilli powder
1 teaspoon ghee or butter
1 teaspoon garam masala
Method
- Soak red lentils overnight
- Cook in fresh water removing any scum and replenishing water
- When just cooked add cumin, chilli powder, tumeric and ghee
- Cook for a further 5 minutes
- Serve with a sprinkling of garam masala
