Banana Riata - Indian Spiced Banana Yogurt Dip
Use as a dip for Popodoms as well as the usual mango chutney and lime pickle or as an accompanying sauce with hot fruity curries.
Preparation time: 5 minutes Quantity: Serves 2 - 3 Cooking time: 1 - 2 minutes
Ingredients
2 tablespoons desiccated coconut
2 tablespoons boiling water
2 medium bananas - just ripe - sliced
1/2 pot / 200 ml natural yogurt
1 heaped teaspoons sugar
pinch salt
1/4 - 1/2 fresh green chilli - finely chopped
1 teaspoon vegetable oil
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 teaspoon black mustard seeds
Method
- Soak the coconut in the hot water and set aside for 5 minutes
- Mix the coconut, bananas, yogurt, sugar, salt and chilli together
- Meanwhile heat up the oil and fry off the seeds until the mustard seeds pop
- Spoon in to the banana yogurt
- Mix and serve
