One of my favorite Desserts, I go to a cafe that serves it warm with Vanilla ice-cream.
Spoil yourself with this amazing dessert, its gorgeously gooey.

Preparation time: 20-30 minutes   Quantity: Serves 9   Cooking time: 35 - 40 minutes

Ingredients

125g/ 4&½ oz soft butter
50g/ 2 oz demerara sugar
1 egg yolk
50g/ 2 oz ground almonds
200g/ 7 oz 200g plain flour

filling-
250g/ 9 oz chopped dates
water to cover

Sprinkle for top
1 teaspoon mixed spice
1 tablespoon demerara sugar

Method

  • Cream butter and sugar
  • Add egg
  • Fold in dry
  • Cover the mix in cling film
  • Refrigerate for 30 minutes


Filling mix -

  • Cover dates with water and boil for 3 minutes . Leave to stand for 10 minutes
  • Grate the pastry. Use half to line a tin and press down
  • Pour all the dates in the middle
  • Sprinkle the other half of mix on top
  • Mix the sugar and spice and sprinkle on top
  • Cook 35 –40 minutes in a pre set oven
