Ingredients

To make this Sticky Fruit Slice / Cake you will need the following ingredients:
1 tin condensed milk
250g/ 9 oz butter
1 pint/550 ml any milk
200g/ 8 oz dried prunes - ready to eat - chopped
200g/ 8 oz dried dates -soft - chopped
50g/ 2 oz raisins
50g/ 2 oz sultanas
50g/ 2 oz currants
150g/ 5 oz whole meal flour
150g/ 5 oz plain flour
1 tablespoon marmalade or apricot jam
1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda

Methods

  1. To make this Sticky Fruit Slice:
    • In a sauce pan add all the fruits, diced butter and both milk
    • Bring to the boil - simmer for 1 -2 minutes until the butter is melted and everything well mixed  
    • Sift the flours twice, add the flours and the good whole meal stuff (left in sieve) to the boiled mix  
    • Stir and add everything else
    • Spoon in to a greased shallow tin
    • Bake in a preheated oven gas 4/180*c/350*f for 40-50 minutes till firm and cooked - a deeper dish/cake tin will take up to 1 & 3/4 hours
