Ingredients

 In order to make these traditional and delicious Gingerbread Men you will need the following ingredients:
125 g / 5 oz butter - softened and diced
150 g / 6 oz dark brown soft sugar
50 ml treacle (not golden syrup)
300 g / 12 oz plain flour - sifted
1 generous teaspoon ground ginger
To Decorate -
Currants / Golden Raisins -  eyes
Cherry or orange peel - mouth
Sultana buttons
Extras -
Gingerbread man and women cutters

Methods

  1. To make these great Gingerbread people:
    • Preheat the oven gas 5 / 190*c.
    • Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
    • Beat in the treacle.
    • Mix in the flour and ginger.
    • Knead with your hands until smooth and well mixed.
    • Roll out onto a floured surface 1/4 - 1/2 inch thick.
    • Cut out the people and place on a greased tray.
    • Decorate the people with eyes, nose and buttons.
    • Bake for 16 - 20 minutes on the middle shelf until firm.
    • Cool on the tray before removing.
