I made this recipe for a slow cooked pork joint, cooked over 3 hours on the B.B.Q and served in huge baps - smothered with Apple Relish and served with mustard potato wedges -  it tasted incredible!

Ingredients

To make this Apple Relish recipe you will need the following ingredients:
3 apples - green/sour - cored, peeled and diced
1 onion - peeled and medium diced
100 ml / 3 fl oz cider vinegar or white wine vinegar
80g / 3 oz caster sugar or any brown sugar seasoning
Variations - add 1/4 teaspoon mixed spice and / or 1 tablespoon raisins or sultanas or use blackcurrant vinegar instead of cider

Methods

  1. To make Apple Relish
    • Add everything together in a thick bottomed pan
    • Boil for 5 minutes
    • Rapidly simmer for a further 15 - 20 minutes - until caramel coloured, sticky, a little loose and soft
    • Spoon in to a large sterilised jar or two small ones
Preparation time (duration): 10 minutes
Cooking time (duration): 20 - 25 minutes
Number of servings (yield): Makes 1 jar enough for 10
