Drinks
The best piece of equipment to make smoothies and milkshakes is an electric wand/ hand blender; you can buy them for as little as a fiver.
Alternatively – push through a sieve or cut small and mash or use any other form of blender.
Recipes – 2 large or 3-4 small – all recipes vary in volume.
1 pint = 550ml = 20fl oz.
1 medium pot cream = 284ml = 10fl oz = 1/2 pint.
1 pot yogurt = 450g = 450ml = 15fl oz = 3/4 pint.
Milkshakes –
Drinks blended with milk or ice cream.
Banana and honey - just liquidise or puree- 2 bananas, 1 pint of milk and 1-2 teaspoons of honey.
Chocolate and Banana milk shake – 2tbs Coco powder, 1 Banana and 1 pint of milk, sweetened with 1-2 tbls of sugar - blend.
Malted Banana – 2 bananas, 1 scoop ice-cream (op), 1 -pint full fat milk, and 2 tbls Horlicks – blend and serve.
Maple Milk – 1-pint milk, 4 tbls maple syrup - wiz till frothy and serve.
Coffee shake – 1-pint milk, 2 tsp camp coffee (or 1/2 cup real coffee), 1 tsp sugar (op), 1 scoop vanilla or coffee ice cream.
Vanilla milk – 1/2 tsp Vanilla extract, 2 scoops vanilla ice cream and 1/2 pint milk. – Whiz and enjoy.
Chilli Wiz – 1 scoop chocolate ice-cream, 1 scoop vanilla ice-cream, ½ fresh red chilli (with or without seeds- depending on how hot you want it!)
1/2 pint full fat milk (or semi), and a splash of cream (op), 1/2 lime squeezed (op)- wiz or blend well- serve.
Smoothies –
Drinks with usually a yogurt and milk base.
Pear and Ginger – 1 tbls of chopped stem ginger or grated fresh ginger, 1 tub (450ml) natural yogurt, 2tbls maple syrup, 3 peeled cored over ripe pears – blend and serve on ice.
Frozen Raspberry and Almond – 1/2lb/250g frozen fresh raspberries, 2oz ground almonds, 1 scoop vanilla ice cream, 2/3 pint milk – blend and serve.
Berry smoothies –blend a hand full of fresh summer berries (4-5oz) with 1/2 tub yogurt and 2/3 pint of milk; sweeten with a tablespoon of honey.
Blackberry and Ice-cream froth – 8oz/200g fresh blackberry’s, 1/2 pint milk, 2 scoops Cornish vanilla ice-cream, 2 tsp golden syrup or maple– blend and wiz the top layer till bubbly and frothy- pour in glasses and enjoy with a few blackberries thrown on top.
Exotic Dried Fruit Delight – Soak 2oz of prunes and 2oz apricots in boiled water (adults job) leave aside till cool. Wiz with 1oz desiccated un-sweetened coconut, 1 banana and 2/3-pint milk - pour on to ice and serve
Vegan Nana Kick – 1/2 pot soy yogurt, 1/2pint soy milk, I sliced banana, 2 tbls date syrup (delis/health food shops)- wiz. Go chocolate by whizzing in 1tbls coco powder.
Cranberry Cream- 1/2-pint cranberry juice, 1/2pot/225g yogurt, 6-8 soft dried apricots- and 1/4 pint milk- whiz and serve.
Pina Smooth – 1/4 diced prepared pineapple (or 1 large tin and juice), 1/2/150g tin creamed coconut, 1/3-pint milk, 2 tbls maple syrup (op)- wiz
Monkey Do Do- 2tbls smooth peanut butter, 2 bananas, 1/4 lemon juice (op) 1/2 tub/225g set yogurt, 1/2 pint full fat milk- wiz and serve.
Fibre Looser Booster – 2/3 pint milk, 3 tbls bran or wheat germ, 2 bananas, 1 lime juice, 1 tbls crushed pistachios, 1/2 tub/225g Greek yogurt- wiz
Green Throff- 1 peeled, deseeded avocado, tip teaspoon grated nutmeg, 1 kiwi diced (skinned), 1/2tub/225g natural yogurt, 1/2-pint milk. - Wiz up and enjoy.
Chocolate mint chip Shake –6-8 chopped mint leaves, 2 tbls honey, 2tbls coco, 1-pint full fat milk, 2 tbls grated chocolate, 2-3 tbls cream – warm through to melt the chocolate- cool and serve on ice.
Nutty chocolate shake – 6 crushed brazil nuts, 2 scoops dark chocolate ice-cream, 3/4 pint milk, 1 tbls maple syrup – blend and serve.
Blends
These are the drinks that are more fruit juice based, like a cocktail but with added fresh fruit blended in.
Juicy Kiwi wiz – 2 peeled chopped kiwis, 1 (200ml) glass fresh orange juice, 1 glass apple juice (200ml). 1 squeezed limejuice - blend and serve.
Pink Cherry – 1/2lb of stoned cherries (or 1 tin inc juice), 1 freshly squeezed lemon, Wiz till smooth and add to 1 glass lemonade or sparkling water.
Watermelon Juice- 8oz/250g skinned, de-seeded watermelon, 1 glass cloudy apple juice- wiz and serve on ice with a few leaves of mint or spice it up with a little chilli.
Strawberry Wiz – 1 punnet of strawberries (4-5oz), 1 glass fresh apple juice, 3 tables crème freish (or Greek yogurt). 4 leaves mint (op) – wiz and serve on ice.
Zesty Banana Apple Wiz – 1 glass apple juice (250ml), 2 bananas, 1 lime zest and juice, 1/2 fresh lemon juice.
Grenadine Berry fizz – 1 glass cranberry juice (250ml), 4-5 hulled strawberries, 6-8 raspberries, 1 tbls grenadine syrup, 3 tbls cream – whiz and serve with a teaspoon of sherbet, sprinkled on top.
Summer cooler – 1 small punet/4oz/200g strawberries, 1 glass fizzy water (250ml), 1/2 limejuice and 1 tsp caster sugar.
No Pimms – 1 large glass lemonade (300ml), 1 inch sliced cucumber, 3-4 mint leaves, 1/2 sliced cored apple- squeeze lemon or lime (op).
Juices –
Pure juices.
The easiest way to make fresh juices is by using a JUICER; alternatively you can peel, prepare and chop all the fruit and whiz with a hand blender with some water, juice or citrus juice.
Please note some juices require all fruit to be prepared i.e. – peeled, deseeded, and chopped in to small pieces.
Tropical blend – 1/5 fresh pineapple, 1/2 mango, 1 banana and 2 peeled oranges.
Banana, mango and apple – 2 bananas, 2 apples and 1 soft mango.
Melon Maniac – 1/2 any melon, (not watermelon) 1 apple and 3 Satsuma’s.
Mango Madness – 1 soft mango, 1 passion fruit (op), 1 limejuice, 1 banana and 1 pomegranate.
Mean Green – 2 kiwi, 1 green pepper and 3 apples.
Munch crunchy – 4 sticks celery, 2-3 carrots and 1 apple.
Merry Berry – 8oz/240g mixed berry’s (fresh or frozen), 1 banana and 2 apples.
Popeye booster – 1 large handful of spinach leaves (3oz/90g), 2 sticks celery and 2 apples.
Red Beet – 2-3 raw beetroot, 4 sticks celery and 1/5 fresh pineapple.
Minty Fresh Pea – 1lb/16oz/450g fresh-shelled peas, 5-6 mint leaves and 3 pears.
Experiment; use your favourite fruits and vegetables and whiz up a treat!!!
